What if it's confidential?
Naturally. With an electronic document there is no paper to lose,
open in error, or fail to shred. We can arrange encryption. But
do not relax; the safest course is, before you send it to us, take
out anything which might identify the source. Erase or change names,
dates, places and amounts in the draft. With a word processor, use
the "Find and Replace" (or similar) of your word processor, and
do not overlook any appearance of a name or place.
If you simply delete names without replacing them, the look of
the line alters, and the meaning may become ambiguous. You will
also have a job keying them in again; you might miss one. It is
better to replace them with something. I suggest you use other or
fictitious names and places (we will supply a list of names if you
can't think of any) and use letters or numbers, AAAAA or 000000,
for dates and amounts. Keep a decoding list, so that with the "Find
and Replace" again you can put the real names, dates, places and
amounts back in the redraft.
Whether you change these identifying details or not, we will treat
your whole document as secret. It is more than our reputation is
worth to let anyone suspect otherwise. We promise not to communicate
your document to anyone else, nor any part of it, not even a short
extract, not even a part we have written or redrafted, unless you
have first agreed in writing. If we do quote from any submitted
draft it is after the client has given permission.
